Getting into any medical school has become very competitive over the years.  The most competitive medical schools are the Ivy League and top ranked medical schools.  Duke medical school established in 1930 in Durham, NC is one such school.   Some of Duke’s most incredible and notable accomplishments are the first brain tumor program in the world and the first physician’s assistant program.  The Duke Clinical Research Institute is one of the best in the country.  The following information includes application requirements, prerequisites and tuition for Duke medical school.

Like all medical schools, Duke medical school has requirements and prerequisites before you can obtain entrance into their excellent programs.  Duke requires the following course prerequisites:

 

  • One year College English or university writing
  • One year Inorganic Chemistry – Coursework and lab
  • One year Organic Chemistry – Coursework and lab
  • One year Physics – Coursework and lab
  • One year Biology (or zoology) – Biology coursework and lab
  • One semester of calculus and one semester of college level math like statistics

 

When you are ready to apply, the following requirements must be met before entering Duke medical school.  You must have at least an A or a 3.75 GPA, MCAT score of 34/35 (this is the average of recent accepted students and letters of recommendation from your current college or university’s faculty.  You will from that point go to the AMCAS to begin your primary application. Remember to check the deadlines for AMCAS application and be prepared in advance.   Once that is done correctly, you will go on to the secondary Duke Administration application process.  If you get past the application process and are chosen, you will be invited for an interview.  A medical school interview(s) can make or break your entry into medical school.

 

Tuition at Duke medical school ranges from around $27,000 to $43,000 (this is tuition only) per calendar year depending on the program of study you choose.  The average Duke Student’s total cost of attendance is currently around $70,000.  There is financial assistance available for Duke medical school for students that meet the above criteria.  The full process of applying for medical school can take up to a year, so be prepared well in advance.

duke was one of my first choices but I ended up going to cornell because they had a better program for pre-med and I wanted to take both at the same school, but duke is right up there at the top of the list
