Pre Med Schools Requirements And Prerequisite Information

There are basic prerequisites that apply to most pre med schools.  There will be varying prerequisites for different med schools, but the following are the minimum requirements to enter med school.  1) 1 year of general chemistry including labs, 2) 1 year of organic chemistry including labs, 3) 1 year of introduction to biology including labs and 4) 1 year of physics including labs.  Your undergraduate coursework should naturally include 1 year of English, math which is determined by the area of medicine in which you are considering, biology, biochemistry and other general studies.  When you are considering pre med schools, keep in mind they are not just looking for students whose strengths lie in only the sciences, but are diverse and well-rounded in their academics.

You will also have tests (MCAT for one), applications, interviews and admissions acceptance to go through before you get into med school.  This process can take at least a year, so it is important to prepare as early as possible.   The more you know about the pre med schools you are considering, the easier the process will seem to you.  If you want to get into one of the top pre med schools, you will need at least a 3.5 GPA and high MCAT test scores.  Typically, these medical schools are not just looking for students who are adept in the sciences, but are also diverse and well rounded in other academic areas.

2 top pre med schools requirements information:

Duke University in Durham, NC has been around since 1930 and has provided students with the best in health practices and medical education.  Admission requirements include at least 90 hours of education at an accredited educational institution.  Courses must include college English, organic and inorganic chemistry (with labs), physics (and labs), biology or zoology (must complete one semester biology lab) and one semester of calculus and one semester of college level math.  Your undergraduate college record must be exemplary and you must show your true commitment to the field of medicine.

Vanderbilt University’s School of Medicine in Nashville, TN turned out its first 61 doctors in 1875 and now ranks number 15 out of 126 top medical schools.  Required courses before applying to Vanderbilt include biology including lab, inorganic chemistry, organic chemistry (both including labs), physics including labs and college English and Composition.  The average GPA of accepted students is 3.8.

You can see that when choosing pre med schools, the competition is pretty fierce, and you must be dedicated and motivated to apply and be accepted.  You may be able to obtain a good medical education at any medical school, but top rated pre med schools have the best reputations and provide the most extensive medical education you can find.

Medical School Equipment Has Changed Over Time

By Jane Worthington
It's amazing to think of the things we do today, without a second thought, as being nonexistent a few hundred years ago, if not less. What if we didn't have medical school equipment? Our doctors would be schooled entirely by books, and not at all with hands on practice in the lab, x-ray division, or surgical areas.

is there a site that has all the stats and prerequisites of the many schools individually? I'm weighing my options and need to know more about each school. When I go to each schools site I'm confronted with an incredible amount of information but none of it seems to be helping me decide. Any thoughts?
