UMass Medical School is a public medical school located in Worcester, Massachusetts. It is one of the five campuses of the UMass system and includes two other schools in addition to the school of medicine. It is highly ranked in primary care education, and is a well known and vital research center.

 

Brief History of the School

 

UMass Medical School was founded in 1962 by Massachusetts lawmakers in order to provide the Commonwealth with an increased number of primary care physicians who would practice in the area. The university provided this training and education at an affordable cost. The first class of sixteen students was enrolled in 1970, and since then, over 2,700 students have graduated from UMass Medical School with degrees in medicine.

 

 Requirements for Admission

 

In order to be considered for admission to UMass Medical School the following requirements must be met:

 

  • Completed undergraduate degree from an accredited institution or school
  • MCAT exam results
  • Completed Application
  • Completed Supplemental Application Forms
  • Letters of Recommendation

 

Required Courses:

 

  • Biology: One year of biology or zoology with lab
  • Chemistry: One year of inorganic and one of organic, each with lab
  • Physics; One year with lab
  • English: One year of college level English Literature or Composition

 

Recommended Coursework:

 

  • Calculus: One year of introductory level calculus
  • Social Sciences
  • Statistics
  • Computer Literacy

Technical Standards Required to be Met for Admission to UMass Medical School:

Students must be able to demonstrate knowledge, abilities and skills in all of the following areas:

There is a non-refundable $75 application fee for those who wish to apply to UMass Medical School.
