Yale Medical School Provides An Unparalleled Medical Education

Yale University houses one of the most established medical schools in the United States. Yale Medical School was founded in 1810. Located in New Haven, Connecticut, Yale-New Haven Hospital is their primary teaching hospital. Since the Yale Medical School program is associated with the Yale-New Haven Hospital, each student will receive instructions from and work with some of the top individuals in their field. The school is also known for having one of the largest medical libraries. The Harvey Cushing/John Hay Whitney Medical Library has one of the largest modern and historical collections.

Yale Medical School is one of the few schools that employ's the "Yale System." The system was developed in the 1920's by Dean Winternitz. In the system first and second year students are not ranked or graded, and exams are anonymous. Tests are intended for self evaluation purposes only. A student's performance is measured by seminar participation, clinical clerkship evaluations, qualifying examinations and the United States Medical Licensing examination (USMLE). If a student does not a pass a qualifying exam, it is their responsibility to schedule an alternative assessment with their professor. Before a student can graduate from Yale Medical School, they will have to submit their thesis based on original research.

This system evokes unusual flexibility that instills each student with a great responsibility to take an active role in their education. Part of the reason this system works for Yale Medical School is because the faculty is made up of 24 Institute of medicine investigators and 25 national academy of Science members. Each member will integrate biological and clinical research and stress collaboration that goes bound the traditional boundaries.

If you are interested in applying to Yale Medical School, you will need to complete the AMCAS application. This application can be found online. Once this application is complete the applicant will then need to fill out the supplemental Yale applicant that is provided by the office of admissions. Yale Medical School is also looking for students that are highly competitive and demonstrate a commitment and aptitude toward any health program. Yale Medical School admissions department likes to look for the diamond in the rough. They are looking for individuals that extend themselves to going beyond the normal boundaries to look for answers. Yale believes that it is these students that will solve the next medical crisis.

Medical School Equipment Has Changed Over Time

By Jane Worthington
It's amazing to think of the things we do today, without a second thought, as being nonexistent a few hundred years ago, if not less. What if we didn't have medical school equipment? Our doctors would be schooled entirely by books, and not at all with hands on practice in the lab, x-ray division, or surgical areas.

I'm stuck between Yale and Harvard, both good schools but each with their specifics you won't find at the other. This is going to be a long research project I think I got a good start from this site.
